Preparing Gen Z for the future business

NEWTON University is at the forefront of addressing the evolving needs of education for Generation Z. In a recent interview with Ambition Magazine, Dr. Anna Plechatá Krausová, Chancellor of NEWTON University, shared her insights on how MBA programs can adapt to this tech-savvy, value-driven generation, while ensuring they develop essential soft and professional skills for success.

Balancing digital and real-world learning

Gen Z students, who have grown up in a world dominated by technology, prefer learning through digital platforms. Dr. Plechatá noted that these students “want to consume everything through technology, ideally a smartphone, or at least to have a digital option.” However, she stressed the importance of blending this preference with in-person learning experiences to prepare students for real-world challenges.

“At work you have to start at a certain time, plus you need to deal with challenges as they arise,” she explained. To bridge this gap, NEWTON University is integrating hybrid learning into its MBA programs while maintaining essential in-person components.

Preparing for digital transformation

Dr. Plechatá highlighted the growing importance of digital transformation in the workplace. NEWTON University's new MBA in AI in Business is designed to prepare students for the challenges of a tech-driven economy. The program focuses on making graduates “expert users” of AI, enabling them to implement technology effectively in their careers.

“One person with useful AI tools can do the job of six people now,” she pointed out, emphasising that mastering AI is essential for Gen Z to stay competitive.

The role of soft skills

While technology is a key focus, Dr. Plechatá emphasised the importance of developing skills that AI cannot replicate, such as emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience. She explained that these soft skills are crucial for long-term success, noting that “you have to actually interact with people in real life – not through a screen – to practise empathy.”

In addition, she reflected on the need for balance in managing stress and personal growth, stating, “If my adrenaline rises, it’s because I care – you can learn to leverage stress as a useful tool at work.”

Global perspectives and lifelong learning

Dr. Plechatá also discussed the importance of preparing students for a globalised economy. With the world becoming increasingly interconnected, NEWTON University emphasises international partnerships, short exchange programs, and networking opportunities to give students valuable global exposure.

Additionally, she highlighted the shift towards modular, flexible learning that supports professionals throughout their careers. “The world of work is evolving so quickly as it’s reacting to rapid technological change,” she explained, underlining the need for MBA graduates to embrace lifelong learning.
