NEWTON University Group management statement on the situation in Ukraine

Dear students, colleagues, friends,

We’re writing to you at a time of the biggest threat to European and global peace and democracy in decades, and an escalating humanitarian crisis of historical proportions. As we remain both shocked and outraged at Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, we express our solidarity with the sovereign Ukrainian state and its people.

On behalf of the NEWTON University Group, we have this morning donated 100,000 CZK to the People in Need Ukraine appeal and 100,000 CZK to the Ukrainian Embassy fund.

We stand with our Ukrainian students and colleagues, and their families. In order to provide as much support as we can, we are setting up a transparent donation account, which will be used to further contribute to alleviating the humanitarian crisis, but also to provide aid to our Ukrainian students in need. We will be contributing to this account from within the university group and personal accounts too and will inform you of the details shortly.

We are also collecting offers of help at this link in order to coordinate our response.

We are designating Mgr Jana Pavlů as the NU crisis coordinator (mob: 602 122 597, email: jana.pavlu@newton.university); please let us know how we can help.

We are also introducing three merit-based scholarships for Ukrainian students to join our English-language bachelor programme in Global Business & Management.

Our Russian and Belarussion students, colleagues and their families, also affected by the conflict, are in our thoughts, too. We will not tolerate any unprofessional or intolerant behaviour.

As we protest, lobby and hope for a quick de-escalation of the conflict, let us support each other as best we can, and do our utmost to alleviate the suffering in Ukraine.
